How often do you wash the mattress protector?
A mattress is quite an expensive purchase, which we hope last at least about 10 to 15 years. Using a mattress protector is a sensitive thing to do, since it will protect the mattress. There are quite a few materials of mattress protectors to choose from, depending on your needs and your sensitivity.
Myself I start sweating if there is a plastic cover – terrible nights for me being literally drowning in my own sweat then. So, it is important to choose the right protector.
What fabrics of mattresses protectors exist?
The Bamboo Mattress Protector:
My personal favorite, the mattress protector of bamboo fabric. Protects the mattress from body fluids and stains. It is soft, noiseless and breathable. Its natural and reduces dust mites and is a good choice for allergy sufferers.
Cooling Material Mattress Protector:
This mattress protector focuses very much on temperature control. Based on how the mattress protectors work in lowering the heat, the cooling mattress protectors are ranked as one of the best materials. There are fabrics in the cooling mattress protector that dissipate heat and have a cooling sensation; Some might use chemical additives or innovative weaving, providing a relaxing and cooling effect.
Cotton Material Mattress Protector:
Cotton is probably the most popular fabric; it is light weighted and comfortable. However, most cotton mattress protectors have a latex cover. Which something I personally have a sweaty reaction to. Some cotton protectors however are fused with wool providing temperature regulating features within the fabrics.
Polyester Material Mattress Protector:
Polyester is a synthetic fabric, there are varieties of polyester. The polyester mattress protectors is quite popular because it is easy to wash and comes at a reasonable price.
Types of Mattress Protector
It is not just the function of the mattress protection there is also the style you want. There are 2 types of the configuration of the mattress protector :
• Zipped –firmly sealed and can be buttoned and unbuttoned to provide a convenient housing that protects the whole mattress.
• Elastic Strap –adjustable strap allows you to attach the mattress across all four sides of your bed for good protection and quick removal.
Why invest in a good mattress protector?
- A mattress protector can help preventing allergens, particularly due to dust mites.
- It can protect against bed bugs
- It protects the mattress against stains from body fluids and other stains.
How Often to Wash a Mattress Protector
Since the mattress protector is covered by the bottom sheet, it only needs to be washed every other month. Allergy sufferers will find it helpful to wash the mattress protector every two weeks, and the protector should be washed more often if someone has a cold or a viral illness.
