How to wash muddy clothes?

Let's see how we clean and wash these muddy clothes.

First, when the mud has dried, scrape or brush off any crusted matter. You can also try to vacuum it - regular vacuum cleaner works. 
Then soak in cold water, sponge the stain using a clean cloth with some cold water and dishsoap.

Why not use hot water?

Hot water cooks the protein component in the mud into fibers and they will make the stain harder to remove. So, always start off with cold water.
When the mud appears to be removed, you can use the washing machine.
Don't add any other clothes, only the muddy clothes in one go. Then just run the washing machine as always with laundry detergent.

Do you need to clean the washing machine after a muddy laundry?

You shouldn't need to. In case you have to, then run an empty machine in the hottest temperature with 20ml of laundry detergent.

Remember to leave the door as well as the detergent compartment open so it can dry.
